I have a non-comp-tip (all aluminum) H-16 mast. I have a new mainsail that has no reef points, so I don't need the reefing ferrule that is on the original main halyard. I find this ferrule gets caught in the mast slot when lowering the main, and getting it out requires running the halyard back up the mast and back down.

Hence, I'd like to replace this original halyard with a comp-tip halyard. Will it work on an original, all aluminum mast?

Or, is there a way to remove the reefing ferrule from the original steel halyard without damaging the halyard?

Thanks for the help.

The CompTip halyard will not work.

Simple solution though. Keep a little tension on the halyard while lowering the first 3-4 feet. That will keep the swedge from entering the track.
