When I put my rudders in the "UP" position, they don't stay. How might I fix?
Thanks
Bill

On older 16's and 14's there is a delrin screw that you can see if you look up from the bottom of your rudders. This plastic screw puts pressure on a spring and plunger that contact your rudder cam. You can find a picture of this in Hobie parts diagram. With more pressure, it should hold cam and rudder in place.

Your might have to take the rudder casting apart to service the plunger assembly as the delrin screw may be frozen in place from years of use and corrosion. I had to carefully drill out the frozen delrin screw with an undersized drill bit and then retapped the threads to clean it up for the new one. I gave it all a very light coat of grease to insure against future seizure.
Make sure your cam and its pin that holds it in place is in good condition as well.

Joe Bennett on you tubes joyridertv has a lot of good instructional videos.
Hope this helps

The upper castings nestle into a notch in the lower castings when the rudders are up. It is possible if drilled incorrectly that the castings are not lined up...

One thing though, you can not leave the tiller on the trampoline when the rudders are up (newer boats typically). In the up position, the tiller crossbar is below the rear beam. The tiller/hiking stick would have to be tossed aft or sticking out to the side.
