Hello Hobie forums,

I recently bought an 1983 Hobie 16 and managed to damage one of the hulls during a recent outing, I am looking for replacement hulls and wanted to know if there is a specific year range I should look for, or if all hull years could be used with the rest of my boat.

As a separate question, can I mix and match hull years or has the shape changed over the years?

I did find the left/right design is different while searching the forums, but haven't found an answer to my two questions above.

Thank you!

The hull shape has not changed because the boats are a strict “One Design.”

The biggest issue would likely be the potential for pylon bolt hole misalignment. It seems Hobie did not have the tightest control on the location of those holes, so you might have to deal with some misalignment between the holes in the corner castings and the holes in the pylons.

The pylon bolt size changed over the years, and the pylon section itself did also (from a mast section with a track to one without a track). I don't know if the casting shape changed for that, though.
