I have a 2017 Outback purchased new in mid season 2018. It sat unused due to health issues until 2020 and has been used less than 25 times. I rinse drive with fresh water and spray Salt-X on it after every trip in saltwater. Also I lubricate it per the Hobie YouTube video every trip. This week while fishing in a river in Upstate NY an hour after launching and multiple forward and reverse shifts, the drive would not engage forward. After attempting to shift multiple times the cable pull snapped. I could still go reverse but not toward. While on the water I removed drive to examine and the cable disengaged from the lever and out of the pulley. When off the water I saw the cable was not on the pulley above the fin. Can the cable be reinstalled and reattached to a new lever/pull shifter?
I’m disappointed that this failure has occurred after very limited use and despite what I consider dedicated care on my part. It will take me out of the water in NJ during the height of the fishing season.

The cable? Grey line inside the drive? If that has broken, we would need to get you a new spine assembly. Call your dealer.

Yes. Grey line is not visible on left fin assembly at pulley. What could be root cause of failure as it did not experience extensive use? If spine assembly requires replacement, is it possibly covered under warranty? Is one available?

Yes, contact your dealer. They will fix or replace under warranty. Spines are available if needed.
