Mirage Drive and weeds

I currently have a pedal drive system but am seriously considering the Passport due to weight and the Mirage drive. Question is how is the Mirage drive in weeds? That's the main drawback for me and the pedal drive, it clogs with weeds so often as to be useless. I fish Lake Erie bays and some inland ponds and reservoirs. TC

I think you may have answered your own question on the various drive systems. Nothing will work in the weeds.
I hate to say it... I guess its oar paddling or stay out of the weeds.

I am in a different (coastal) environment, but come upon reedy grass often near the shorelines ... I like how easy it is to pull the drive, and/or flutter when in dense situations to avoid grass. Can't say enough of how nice it is to flutter pedal in a few inches of water versus cycling. I would guess the hobie drive would be a lot easier to clean of debris than a pedal, and get less clogged when it hits, but it all depends on what you are looking for

Thanks for the replies. I guess it's a case of the lesser evil. To me it does look easier to clean the mirage drive. The propeller on the pedal drive is a real chore to clean. TC

My experience is the M Drive still works, but it just gets harder to pedal and doesn't go as fast and the rudder gets harder to turn as well. But it never stops working. Once I am out of the weeded area, I pull the drive and clean it. I also lift the rudder and then drop it. Takes about 2 seconds. Yes it can be annoying but not really a big deal.
