Hola
I am looking for a later model year Hobie 16 Mast, the one for my '09 boat is not what I want. If you got one or know where I can get one, I have cash or tons and tons of stuff to trade.
Also, looking for a Hobie 16 down haul.
Thanks
Chris Wessels

I don’t have a mast, but just curious what changed in the masts between 2009 and present? I know the mast base had been updated at some point and the jib halyard block and cleat has changed/relocated, but those seem like relatively easy upgrades that could be made on an existing mast which would not require an entirely new mast.

I got swindled on a Hobie 16 I got from a guy down in Florida, my bad for buying sight unseen. The boat is okay, its an '09 and pretty sun damaged. The mast is like off an older boat, looks like its been in the sun for a 100 years and I just want to get a newer mast if someone has one off an wrecked boat or whatever. I can't tell you the diff between the older and newer other than the rake adjustments are way better on the newer ones. When that changed I haven't a clue.

The mast base changed in 2004. Other than that some of the jib halyard/forestay tensioning hardware changed to allow for easier forestay adjustments while on the water.

Yes... In the early 80s we changed the step to allow for rake and again around 2004 we came out with another changed base and step casting set. The 2004 version allows even more rake, has larger stops and matched surfaces for less wear in contact points. The step cup also has small holes drilled in it that are called a "chip keeper". The chip presses into the recesses and grips the chip in place. They don't squeeze out when sailing or fall out during transport. Really cool idea by Dan Ketterman. Works great.
