I'm a 60+year old woman with a problem - I have a Hobie 14 and need to replace the tires and rims. There are 4 lug nuts. My son-in-law can help me change the tires, but I need to order the replacement first and don't want to get the wrong one.
I've looked at the "how to measure tires" online but the problem is the hub/center part is there and I can't accurately measure the center of the two opposing lug nuts because it protrudes out about 3 inches.
Was/is there a standard tire size for Hobie 14 / Hobie 14 Turbo trailers that were purchased in 1983? It appears to be somewhere between 4 and 5 inches just from holding a yardstick up to it. I can't look at the tire because it is so old it is cracking and no raised specs are visible.

Lug patterns are standard... either 4 or 5 lugs typically.

You can get spares that are hub and tire from parts stores or Walmart.

I would guess 8" if the lug pattern is 4.

These older axles are common to utility trailers as well and the 4-hole by 4 inch bolt pattern has been the standard for years.

Trailer tire/wheels you can find at Harbor Freight, Northern Tool, Wal-mart, etc. in 4-hole bolt pattern will fit your trailer.

Main choice will be 8" or 12"

Almost certainly either 4.80-8 or 4.80-12 (8” or 12” respectively). Measure the diameter of the rim to know for sure.

If you have 8" tires, I'd swap to 12" if there is fender room. Better ride, easier on the bearings (bigger wheels turn much more slowly). Also, radial tires cost considerably more than bias ply tires but they track and ride 100% better. I recently swapped to radials and the trailer pulls noticeably easier.
