Hey All,

I just got a new-to-me Hobie 14. The hulls are in great condition, so I didn't want to subject them to dragging against the rocks when launching and recovering the boat. The lake I sail on is a reservoir and much of my beach slip is covered in small rocks.

I built a DIY Cat Trax, but I'm wondering, is it worse to store the boat on this, with most of the weight concentrated on the dolly, instead of letting the boat rest fully on the ground?

Here's a picture of it.

Thanks all!

14 (and 16) hulls are robust. You could fashion a flat piece 8 to 12 inches to distribute some of the load (for storage), but you're looking at MAYBE 100 pounds at each point of contact.
I would slide the axle back towards the rear pylon, and call it good.

BTW, nice looking boat ! '84 or '85 ?

I leave my Dragoon on its "dolly" launching trolley beside the lake. I also have a couple of old car tyres which the skegs sit on. Doesn't damage the hulls at all.

I'd get a little something under the bows also, unless the soil is very sandy. Storing hulls on ground that may stay wet can lead to water absorption, gelcoat blisters, staining, etc.
