I stopped by the Carlyle Sailing Club's marina on Lake Carlyle this weekend. It is a beautiful facility. The people were all friendly, and happy to see another Hobie Cat.
They have a very nice Hobie Beach in a quite little cove. There were probably 30+ Hobies from 14's - 20's. For a $10.00 fee as a guest, they make the beach, picnic shelters, bath/shower house etc. all available.
They even offered the use of the club's cat wheels so I could easily move from trailer to beach.
The club also had a laser fleet, junior sailing camp, and maybe another 100 sailboats from lasers to about 28' cruisers. They have several lifts and ramps specifically for sailboats.
Interestingly enough, it is a dry marina, that is all boats come out of the water at day's end, and back onto their trailers. Makes for a very organized, tidy setup.
I wish I could comment on the sailing. The lake was gorgeous, and seemed ideal ~ but there was absolutely no wind that day. We never took the 16 off its trailer. I was told this was highly unusual, and believe it. I believe the lake is 8 miles long, and 3 miles wide, with low flat land surrounding.
I'll have to return another day.
