 Post subject: mast repair

Is there any repairing a mast that has snapped at the fiberglass junction ? Or should I be looking for a new mast ?

The aluminum is intact? The CompTip broke at the joint?

A new CompTip is about half the cost of a mast.

I really not sure what year model, 1980's. It was recently restored.

Is it possible to remove the comp tip without destroying it? My boat blew off the trailer and the sail track on the comp tip is coming off, and it looks like it installs by sliding it onto the comp tip from the bottom...gee, I guess my real question is how to get the plastic sail track back on the comp tip.

It should be fairly easy if none of your parts were damaged. Thankfully there's no need to remove the comp-tip.....that's a much more difficult job. The track just snaps on.

It will help if all the lips and grooves are clean. Maybe even lube it with a little dishwashing soap.
