Thanks, good to know that ball on the top of the mast is just for decoration.
I think I have enough experience with the boat now that I don't need to worry about capsize so much anymore...if I do capsize, I will be "done anyway" since the thermal shock to my old fat body would make me less than able to right it in the best of circumstances. It is why I put a reef in the mainsail, after all.
Since I'm not a fan of Pop rivets if they aren't needed, I decided to go with #14 3/4" stainless metal screws that screwed (with application of judicious torque) into the same 7/32" holes that the pop rivets would have gone into. With that big glob of sikaflex just above it, I'm not worried about a half cup of water in the bottom if they leak, and I don't live in an area that freezes. Should actually be stronger than the pop rivets.
