All

I have booked several trips in the next few months where I will use a getaway 01 I purchased couple of mo than ago

I will have teens with me.... planning to go to several islands in South West Florida accessible only by boat.

My concern are all the posts I see about Brocken mast cockpit

Is there anything I can do to prevent it ? A mast break would ruin my vacation

I already bought and applied epoxy to glue them together...

Should I preventively find and cut a hobie 16 mast? Or should I preventativly buy a mast cockpit for replacement?

How likely is for cockpit to break?

Thank you

Paolo

When few things go wrong on a boat, the few that do go wrong receive a lot more publicity and talk than you would expect. The comptip is pretty robust and should give you many years of good service. Sailing in Florida waters with frequent lightning storms you are safer with the comptip than with solid aluminum tube.

I've had a comp tip on 3 Hobies so far with no problem.

Have you replaced the shrouds on the boat you bought? I'd be more concerned about those. I bought a used H17 and the seller claimed the standing rigging was recently replaced. I had a side shroud break under moderate wind conditions about the 3rd time I sailed it.
