As I sit around waiting to heal up after rotator cuff surgery, I've been thinking. Always a dangerous thing...

I often sail my Getaway in company of Hobie 16s, and in winds under 20 mph or so, the 16s are faster. I know I have more weight, slower hulls, shorter mast, but I also wonder how much performance I'm giving up with the boomless sail plan.

Has anyone rigged a boom on the Getaway and measured a difference? Or compared a 17 with and without boom to see the difference? I've got access to some 16 parts, and am thinking of trying this.
