Can a spinnaker be added to the Wave without buying
the jib? Or, does the jib hardware (spreader bar, etc.)
have to be there for the spinnaker to be installed?

The spinnaker is a separate accessory. You can use one or the other... without the other, so yes, you can use the spinnaker without having a jib kit.
