Hobie Wave - Shroud anchor (?) problem

Hello there,

I bought a used Hobie Wave, and have enjoyed learning to sail with the catamaran. The right shroud anchor/mount into the hull has a small tear in the hull body (picture link below) and while that doesn't seem to affect the function of the Wave I am afraid that might expand over time, leading to potentially complete failure.

I'd appreciate any pointer to mitigate that.

What structure is in the hull at these anchor points. I have an anchor point that has a rust bolt in it and wondering about possible repair options.

I'm still trying to figure out what to do and I haven't got to that yet, @smfinley, but will share if I open up to check in the next few days.

Waves have a molded in fitting. Could be aluminum, stainless or brass (most current is brass). The original Wave may have used nuts and washers. Rust can blead from stainless parts due to contaminants, but typically just cosmetic.

@mmiller, it's more than rust. If you look closer at the picture there's a tear in the hull because repeated pull on the anchor. I'm not sure what to do with that tear.

Certainly looks like the shroud anchor is pulling out. Maybe it got over-stressed from someone tieing off the beach wheels. I would think the ovalized hole would be a significant leak in any significant wind/waves.

I’m pretty sure you can peel off the deck pad and then gain access to the inside of the hull. But this definitely needs to be repaired and I don’t see how you would do that without getting inside the hull and probably thru-bolting it.
