Transducer Location Question

I have moved my shoot-thru-hull transducer from my OK Prowler to my 09 Hobie Revolution and glued it to the hull within a foot of the bow. I fish in rough salt water and it works fine, except my depth limit is now 160’ where it used to be twice that on the OK. I assume the hull thickness is greater, is there a preferred location?

I was going for a little bit of protection when I installed mine between the mast tube and the drive well. Works fine. I believe that might be a little more of a verticle shot and less chance of being out of the water in heavier chop.

I think NH may have something. Since the bow is swept up the transducer won't be vertical anymore. Meaning the trans. is shooting forward at an angle and cutting out on the depth that your FF can see.

I put my transducer right next to the mast. I used aqua (fish tanks) sealer. It's a slow drying sealar. It's by Dap about $3-. It works great. I made some braces out of plastic and filled it. Zip tied it to mast and pressed down once it was filled. I have used it about 30 times this season. No problems at all. I did used Blue Seas calm connection for the wire.

I didn't think it had to do with the "swoop" of the hull because my depth readings were consistant with several friends readings.
I reinstalled the transducer between the mast tube and drive well and my numbers doubled to over 300', similar to what they were before on my OK. I believe the hull is thicker at the bow, possibly do to some centrifical force from rotomolding. Anyway, I'm a happy camper and appreciate the inputs.

Mine is "gooped" in right behind the Drive inside the hull.

Second Transducer i've had in this position, and it works a treat!

Just got an 09 revolution and would like to mount a fish finder/gps. Looks like the side rails, or maybe the drink holder slot are the only logical places. Where have any of you revolution owners mounted yours?
Also, can anyone recommend a fish finder/gps w/ mapping combo?

There's always the mast hole which makes the FF right in front of you and doesn't impede you when you're trying to bring fish over the rails. The RAM wedge mount makes it a simple quick job w/ no holes in your kayak.

My f.f. is mounted with the Ram wedge mount like zeelander's. It's the perfect location for me. Out of the way, easy to see. The best reason is the cables come out from the hatch. No holes to drill.

Thanks for the responses. I read somewhere that the wedge mount could crack the mast tube. Any concern about this?

You'd have to REALLY over tighten it to do damage the tube. I've noticed no problems.
