The reason I prefer sailing my Adventure over sailing the same hull as an Adventure Island is that it is more of a challenge to sail the Adventure well than it is to sail the AI: there's no danger of a capsize in the AI. Also the AI is a whole lot heavier and complicated to transport and set up and, should the wind drop, it will not be as easy to pedal back. Sure the AI is faster - but the overall sailing experience is a whole lot wetter (as long as you successfully avoid a capsize) ! Finally, I usually pedal/sail out, fish and then pedail/sail back -I find that fishing from the Adventure Island is more difficult thant the Adventure because of the problem of fishing over the amas and stowing the mast out of the way.
Interesting. I started fishing from an AI because of my experiences using a sail in an Adventure. But I discovered more cons with using the standard sail and its operation than those present with an AI. The cons you raise I assumed would be a problem to, but they turned out to be really easy to get around. Amas? Never really in the way and easy to fold in if need be. And never had the sail mast be a problem, though I have had to remove the mainsheet line a couple of times.
Also... there is a danger of capsizing an AI. I have come oh-so close many times. But no near as much danger as capsizing an AI with a sailkit, which yes, is one of the cons I discovered. Even worse, is the manual sail furling gig with the standard sailkit. try doing that with a 20kg kingfish spooling line as it swims rapidly in the opposite direction to your sailing. That ends badly almost every time, and thats why I started looking at the AI.
Once again... I've tried both, sailing Adv and using the AI. And I can safely say that I would not go back. No way could I have achieved what I have from an AI from just the Adv with sailkit. So my experiences and opinions on the AI vs Adv with st sail is quite different. AI for me, all day, any day.
