I just ordered three i9S kayaks with turbo fins, sailing rudder and sail kit for each.
I know that the sail kit for the inflatables has a forestay and shrouds (for obvious reasons). Unless there is a very creative method to do so, I think the standing rigging will preclude any form of furling.
Is there any way to reef the sail (or to furl it) short of actually unstepping the mast? I thought about running some very lightweight lines around the sail (through the clew and passing through some kind of fairlead at a point of equal height on the opposite side of the mast). That way, I could pull on the line and reef the sail against the mast (sort of like a vertical lazy jack system).
I don't know if my idea would work, and even if it did it would be a fairly clumsy and messy way to reef.
I would really like to be able to have full reefing control over the sail without having to unstep. Any ideas?
