After fending off aligators, bugs, snakes, tanker wakes, and sitting six months in an AI with a wet butt, Rene has reached Montreal. His adventure was logged on his blog site with beautiful pictures to boot. I must admit I was skeptical when he announced his intentions. He was unfamiliar with AIs or the route. Yet he has accomplished an heroic feat by my way of thinking. He now must own the longest distance traveled in an AI record. Congatulations!!!, Rene. That was one inspiring trip. Doug

On a side note, this came accros my email this morning:
America's Best:
Extending National Recognition, Outside Magazine Deems
Maine Island Trail "Best Sea-Kayaking Trail" in America
For those interested in the above you can look at the MITA website.

Yes, definitely 3 cheers!

Here is the link to Rene's blog: http://miami2montreal.wordpress.com/

Also, here is the link to the trip through the Florida everglades that he did with us last Febuary to get his feet wet so to speak.

Congrats, Renee. What an amazing accomplishment. Each day, we looked forward to receiving your updates on your blog... (sometimes to check if you were still alive) :-)

Let us know if you plan to do the trip again next year. :-) You sailed so fast... I missed the opportunity to catch up with you as you quickly whizzed through the Lake Worth Lagoon.

Congrats Rene- a truly amazing trip and a great effort. 8)
I'm a bit confused though. :?
You started with a '10 (or earlier) hull and ended with an '11 hull but I don't remember reading about a change. I do remember reading about you taking on lots of water.
Was the damage from the wave surge irrepairable?

Congratulation to Rene.

I talked to him when we crossed the Chesapeake. He did get a new main hull from Hobie when the Mirage well cracked. Go, Hobie !!!

He has done something that many of us only dream about...

awesome effort - Congrats Rene !!

My butt hurts just thinking about that much time in the AI cocpit

If I could lash this bad boy to the Aka's ... with its 2 speed massage, heated bun warmer, and drink cooler - then I'd have a go

Bonjour Rene
Happy Canada Day!
As a fellow Canadian, I congratulate you on your amazing journey.
I live 3500 miles from you on the opposite side of our amazing country on the East Coast of Vancouver Island.
I've been thinking of considering raising money for Cancer research by traveling from Vancouver Island to Alaska via 2 Hobie Adventure Islands.
Alas so far I have not been able to find a partner with a fully rigged craft to undertake this adventure.
Please PM me if you are interested...after a long deserved rest, mon ami.
Best Regards, Rene
Trinomite

Thanks guys,

I haven't been on the forum for a while. I'm enjoying the perks of living in Montreal right now. ;)

I will write an ebook about this trip and edit the images correctly. I will finally have the time to write without having to worry about battery life! I wrote my blog in 15 minute blitz with the computer on my lap while sweating in my tent.

About doing the coast all the way to Alaska, of course I could be persuaded to do this (simply promise not to feed me to bears and I'm pretty much persuaded). In any case, i could probably help with a few insights.

The blog is going to be dead for a while but if you want to know when the book comes out you should subscribe to it since subscribers will get a notification.

http://miami2montreal.com

Hit subscribe on the upper left side and enter you email. You will get a message only when there are new posts.

About the hull, Blair the owner fo Hybrid Marine in Lancaster Ontario, my dealer, was incredibly dedicated to my trip and made sure I got my hull. He paid for the new arms that fit the 2011.

Cheers!

Rene

Absolutely, three cheers and more!

I was in the ICW a couple weeks ago, I was thinking about Rene going through the same channel.
