hiking stick broken after minimal use

Very disappointed that my tandem island hiking stick has broken right where the screw sets into the hiking handle--looks like stress fatigue to the cable? I've only had the hiking stick 2 seasons and seriously have not used it that much as how often is one sailing from the tramps?--it worked great but really really disappointed that it has failed so soon considering the very high price--anybody have a fix or know if Hobie will do anything for me??
