Good morning all,
Last year, I purchased a 2021 Hobie Mirage Pro Angler 14. Unfortunately, a few days ago while I was carrying the kayak up a set of stairs, there was a hidden nail sticking out of the wooden staircase which put a footlong gash in the side of my kayak. The gash did not go all the way through the hull, but put a relatively deep gash (2mm or so if I had to guess) in the plastic. It looks worse than a cosmetic scratch but not deep enough to look like it would cause me to take on water. It seems somewhere in between but to be honest I don't know how much plastic lies between the outside and inside of the hull.
Regardless - the reason for my post is that I would like to get it repaired. Is there a way to fill in the gash with some type of Hobie approved kit, or 'melted plastic' repair? I know there are likely a few different ways I can address this but I am looking for the 'Hobie authorized repair' way of fixing it as if I shipped the kayak to an authorized hobie repair facility and had it fixed the 'proper' way.
I don't expect the repair to make the kayak look pretty again - I can care less about cosmetics. I just want to ensure that the structural integrity of the kayak is restored in that area of the gash.
Suggestions are appreciated! Thank you very much in advance for your help
-Jonathan
