I'm thinking of getting a PA but I'm having trouble deciding on the model.

The main application will be fishing in large impoundments but I may use it occasionally to fish in medium to large rivers. I think a 14/180 would be fine for impoundments but a 12/360 would be better in rivers. How would the 12 go in impoundments, and calm inshore in conditions? Alternatively, would a 14/360 be OK in rivers?

I pondered the same question back in October 2012 and opted for a 2013 PA-14 and never looked back.
With either kayak, you need to be careful about encountering shallow water or underwater obstacles so not to damage the Mirage drive.
A good fish finder with GPS is worth the investment for several reasons and you won't be sorry about the purchase.
The small price difference between the PA-12 and PA-14 favors the PA-14 for more bang for the buck.
