Hi,

I am very new to sailing. I took a lesson early this summer and went out on the water solo a few dozen times in a Sunfish rental and also a Hobie Bravo that has been rotting in a friend's yard for several years. I had a ton of fun and am looking into buying a used Hobie Bravo or Wave of my own this fall when the prices probably drop.

I spent the summer sailing on a 277 acre lake in Pennsylvania where we rent a house, but I am now home to Brooklyn, NY. I don't think I have the skill (or guts) to sail in NY Harbor or the Hudson/East Rivers, but I would guess there is probably great sailing available in the various bays in Brooklyn/Queens/Long Island.

Google has failed me and I can't seem to find any sailing information or groups besides the 1001 sailing charters in NYC or some info for much larger boats. The one exception is there seems to be a great catamaran club in Sandy Hook, NJ but that would cost me about $50 in tolls round trip.

Does anyone know where I can find advice about where a small cat would be permitted to sail nearby? Or maybe some clubs similar to the Sandy Hook one I found?

Thank you! I am hoping to get out on the water more than two months of the year.

There must be many clubs around...I've sailed off Jennings Beach Fairfield CT, a typical location, so there must be others like that closer to Brooklyn.
Ask Google....

go check the old catsailor website, or thebeachcats

There "were" several folks sailing off Long Island, but I don't recall where exactly
