Can anyone tell me if a Hobie 14 and Hobie 16 boom are the same length and how far from the end of the boom does the bale for the mainsheet block go on a Hobie 14 boom.

Thanks

They are not the same length, the 14 is shorter, but they are the same profile. So a 16 boom could be cut down to be used on a 14.

Not sure on the bale measurement and I don’t have a 14 boom handy at the moment. You could get it close enough by rigging the boat and then positioning the bale so that the upper block is a few inches behind the rear crossbar. You just want the blocks to force the boom forward slightly when sheeting in. This will ensure that the mast rotates properly.

Measurements from my H14 boom:
Total extrusion length (not counting end caps): 96 in.
Aft bale (where 6:1 blocks are attached): Rivets centered 24 in. from aft end of extrusion.
Forward bale: Rivets centered 28.5 in. from aft end of extrusion.
Aft rivet for outhaul jam cleat centered 30 in. from aft end of extrusion.
