I try to adjust mine to be less than 1/2 the reefing line thickness, but never to touch the rim. That way if slack caused the reefing line to drop off the spindle, it will go back on when tightened instead of jamming under it.

That makes sense -thanks Bob! 8)

The internal pin that fits into the bottom of the mast had rusted off! Thats' the small bolt like protrusion from the metal plate held in by four screws.

 Definitely the reason I saw the mast moving with the sail furled and probably the reason the furling drum collar got pushed up. The bottom of the mast had nothing to ride on, but the plate itself.

I also noticed that the pin must have been hollow and appeared to be welded to the plate. The remains showed a cylinder, not a sold pin, along with clear corrosion. Weld failure might also be a possibility although I don't think so. The thing will have to be disassembled to find out.

We are talking about this part?

That is 1/4" thick stainless plate and a 1/2" solid pin welded top and bottom to the plate.

Mahalo Bob

I put it there and we'll see next week.

BTW almost have all the rigging done for splash shield. Maybe finish off next week.

That's it Matt

Note that the pin appeared to be hollow.

The dealer has put in for a warranty claim.

You will have to wrestle the thing to get the part out for examination. Do you want the dealer to ship it to you?

aloha

Dan

Looks like it sheared the 1/2" post? Rust may have formed in the middle after the initial crack?

I do understand that parts were ordered / shipped already to you to replace this.

Yes, please ask the dealer to ship the cup or cut off just the base with this part in it. What ever works.

One thought... perhaps the weld weakened the post? We need to see it.
