How soft is soft??? There are no degrees of soft. If it's not hard, it's soft. If you push on it and it moves, it's soft. Soft spots anywhere on a boat hull is not good. Chech both hulls all over - top, sides; all over. Check the mast. It should be straight with no major dents or dings. Check the rudders, tramp, and sails. Check everything! You're new to this sport, so you want to buy a boat that's ready to sail; not a project that needs a lot of work. This Hobie 16 is 28 yrs. old. If it's been maintained well it could be as good as new and you can save a lot of money. If it needs some major work, walk away from it and look for another boat. Hobie 16 vs. Hobie Wave????They're both good and they both have their shortcomings. Get the boat you really want. Don't settle for anything less. You don't want to buy a boat and trailer and regret your decision, and try to sell it a few weeks or months later. Do it right the first time. Good luck! I hope this works out well for you. Richard
