Anyone out there know where I can find an old single sheave head for a Hobie 16? My top mast roller is shot and I'm desperately searching for one so I can sail again.

Maybe a dealer who cut off a mast to install a CompTip, but this has not been available for over a decade as a replacement part.

Worst case... install a CompTip mast head and use a CompTip type halyard.

Check with Jeremy at Surf City Catamarans.I have the same problem and bought a used masthead from him.Waiting for spring to replace mine.

Anyone know what the diameter is of that sheave and its center bore? Somewhere there ought to be a comparable replacement product. Sheaves aren't exactly rare in the maritime world.

I probabely still have one - not sure how good that one would be - typically the plastic pully is most of the time in bad shape due to age and UV light. If you can not locate a usable top, the pully could be fabricated out of a pice of delrin by using a router.

Ed Louchard at Zephyrwerks said he would make me one from Delrin for $68 if I sent him an old one to pattern. I don't have a spare sheave to send him without taking my mast apart. Maybe if someone here has one we could get a group buy together.

I probabely still have one - not sure how good that one would be - typically the plastic pully is most of the time in bad shape due to age and UV light. If you can not locate a usable top, the pully could be fabricated out of a pice of delrin by using a router.

I got one out of the back yard it seems to be fine. It does have a nut and bolt holding the pully in place not sure what that is all about? But it seems to work fine.
I will ship it to you for $35

I dropped the mast, and it broke the wheel in the top. I actually found a person that would make the new wheel out of aluminum. It would cost around $70 and I could ship it anywhere in the us for around $6.00. Just let me know if you want me to have this guy make you one.

70 bucks sounds steep - at the same time if it is made from aluminum it will last for ever. The delrin version could be fabricated with "normal" household tools. Most of us should be able to drill a hole in a plate of delrin and cut a circle with a router bit. If you want to go fancy you could cut a couple of more holes to reduce weight...
