The sails I got with my '86 were a near-mint set of "White (nationals) Prism," but I really liked some of the older patterns. I have since picked up an ok set of "Tequila Sunrise" sails and a really nice set of "Cat Fever" sails.
I wasn't looking for TS sails but stumbled on a set, that included a boom and battens for $100, so couldn't pass it up, if just for the boom and battens alone. The sails were only in fair shape- really dirty, with a lot of rust stains too, some shroud burnished batten pockets, and a few ripped batten pockets. A lot of elbow grease, detergent, and rust remover did wonders for the appearance. My local sail guy took care of the rips, so now they look great! (see first post in this thread)
I spent some time hunting for my original intended target- "Cat Fever" sails. I checked out Ebay and Craigslist (used Crazedlist for nationwide search), for people selling an H16 with two sets of sails. If one set was Cat Fever, I tried to talk the seller into selling me just the Cat Fever sails separately. After a few false starts, I finally talked a seller out of an excellent, but stained and dirty set for less than $200. Again, elbow grease and cleaners worked wonders- I am now a self proclaimed expert at removing rust stains from sails. It is amazing how many people don't know the sail pattern- many incorrectly think they have Tequila Surnrise!!!
In addition to my Tequila Sunrise sails in the first post of this thread, I now also own the following:
White Prism
Cat Fever
She may not be fast, but she sure is pretty!!!!
