Gday. Just wondering if anyone races their getaway with front tramp and wings attached?
Over here In Australia, the yardstick for getaways mentions no wings and no front tramp but you can have trapeze for 1. Would like to race, but cant be bothered removing items each time i race and then putting back on to go social.
cheers. Jezza

Hi Jezza
I sail my getaway without front tramp, wings, and mast float. I sail one on trapeze and skipper hiking, so 2 on board, that is what the Australian yardstick covers. I'm actually the person who got vyc to make an official yardstick for the getaway in this configuration as I used to race it. It's actually quite fast sailing like this, but much slower with the wings, it does not have a yardstick for the wings.I've had my boat over 20 years now, best recreational cat I've ever had, I also race a taipan 4.9 these days.
Cheers and good sailing..

Thanks Des
I sail mostly with my wife and some mates socially, so the wings are great and cant be bothered taking off or removing tramp to race once a month as its handy when i go camping.
Do you reckon that a getaway with tramp on, 2 up, one on trap (off wing) and one either, sitting on hull or sitting on wing is slower than your setup?
Anyway, the way i have it, is the way I'm going to race it, using the VYS and see what happens. If I do well (haha), then I'll just reduce my YS at the club...
PS: love those taipans. fantastic cat.

Hi again Jezza
Pretty much anyway you look at this the getaway is slower with the wing kit on, even trapezing off the wing still won't be as fast as a boat without the wings etc. On that note I'm pretty sure Hobie recommends not trapezing off the wings due to strength issues.
Anyway, enjoy your sailing up there this time of year, I won't be out much now here in Tasmania as it's almost winter.. brrr.
Cheers.
