has anyone else notice the transducer mount molded into the scupper of the ocean kayaks? any one tried this out? it be pretty sweet to see something like this on the PA, Hobie :D

I think the lack of responses is due to the oodles of threads on this specific topic...mainly collaborated within other topics having to do with transducer locations. I'm sure Hobie is taking into account any and all ideas to one day, create the ultimate fishing machine. They're close with the PA, but not quite nail on the head. I think the ultimate yak will be just that, a yak; bout the length of a Revo or Adventure, with rod holders like the PA (or OK 4.7 option), scupper transducer location which would enable a SI transducer (like the OK 4.7), a larger bait/live well (like the OK 4.7) :) channel lock rails (like the WS Commander series), and what else :) did I mention the OK 4.7? Sorry, just like a lot of the features on that vessel....would be a lot better with an incorporated box under the front hatch for tackle storage.

Anyway, this is a Hobie forum....so, we'll leave it at that :D

A built in FLUSH scupper mounting hole in the fishing type Hobie's would be nice. I rigged one on my outback that looks like it will work ok for now.

But it sure would be nice to have the transducer inset in the kayak that would allow the transducer to be more protected.

Apparently Lowrance and Hobie have been working on this. The link below explains the engineering:

http://www.lowrance.com/upload/Lowrance ... e_AMER.pdf

Some of the videos from the recent ICAST show have shown the new Hobies being Lowrance Scupper ready.

I don't understand how you can use your Trax Cart if a scupper has the add on gear.

Hopefully, this new scupper use for transducers will be transfered to the new Revo 11. I have a great Lowrance M68C, we use on our Jon boat. It would be great to buy a new transducer for the new Revo 11 and transplant it to my new Revo 11. The M68C is basically a bullet/water/idiot proof fish finder and GPS unit. It can run all day and never sap a standard 12 volt marine battery. I have heard of people getting 2-4 days use on one charge with the rechargeable batteries like the one that Hobie sells on the aftermarket with their M68C.

I agree that Hobie needs to look at the scupper transducer mount. Here in New Zealand, where the OK 4.7 was designed you have a choice of 7 different yaks with dedicated transducer scuppers. The original design comes from Stephen Tapp who works for Viking Kayaks, they make the Profish 440 and 400, OK have the 4.7 and 4.3, Mission have Catch 390 and Catch 440 and Cobra have the Marauder. They are all dedicated fishing yaks and all have recessed transducer scuppers and sealed centre wells for gear storage. We are a bit paranoid here about opening hatches into the hull when out on the sea. Being 2 Islands at the bottom of the Pacific we tend to get a bit of swell and wind. With a population of 4.5 million and a coastline that is greater than that of the USA you can be out of cellphone, radio contact and pretty isolated without too much trouble. Under those circumstances the last thing you want is for your hull to flood through an open hatch.

I like the look of the Lowrance set up, just so long as the transducer does not sit proud of the hull.

Once Hobie sought out a dedicated transducer scupper I might just be in the market for a new yak :)

I sent a message at least 2yrs. ago to Lowrance telling them to get it together and notice where the innovation needs to be its on our awesome plastic boats.

Big boat sales are waaaay down the Big 3 of electronics should be paying better attention to whats happening in the Kayaking world I've been involved in the marine industry for over 25yrs most of that time spent around outboard powered fishing boats during all that time marine electronics(fish-finders) have been there either in my own boats or a customers.

I won't give up my Trax cart to be able to mount a transducer thru one of the scupper holes I'd rather drill.

I've put a couple thousand holes in the bottoms of many many boats having put a couple in the bottom of my kayak so I have a well mounted and well operating sonar is well worth it.

Currently my Kayak has a Lowrance M68c but hopefully this winter I'll be installing a HDS5 and Structure Scan come on Santa smile on my house will ya please.

Normally in the summer time here, the bigger boat haulers are all over our roads going to and from the lakes and rivers. With the economic meltdown/gas prices, we are seeing a lot less of these boats on the roads and on the water.

Any electronic maker, rod holder maker, who caters to the fishing/boating crowd had better get into the Kayak after market with simple ways to add on stuff for their gear, not the complicated slicing, dicing, drilling and other engineering proceedures to install their devices/gear.

Like you I will not give up my Trax cart to mount a transducer. Hobie may have to put in an extra transducer scupper hole.

I would really like to use my Lowrance 68c on my yaks, but I'm not skilled in drilling and whatever to mount it.

Re the newer fish finders with the so called hi def and structure scanners, the reviews by customers has not been good at all for their finders.

A 3rd hole from the manufacture dedicated to a transducer location would be incredible a truly great idea.

Back in the little bit more than a little while ago all we had to use were flashers and we swore by them, then along came LCD's and paper chart recorders the LCD's they were crude at best by comparsion to today's equipment while the paper graphs were a huge improveemt in detail they were bulky dirty and you had to replace paper, belts and stylus's and we all talked smack about the new equipment and kept on using our flashers.

Until some of us got our hands on some paper graphs and started playing with them and learning what we were seeing then everything changes for us we were able to find and catch fish with the aid of a paper graph would I have found them with my old flasher that pretty hard to say I thouhgt I was pretty good using that thing but no I would not have found the fish or even known what I was seeing crossing over that area without that old paper graph.

The new units are that are out there now are gonna get hammered by some for one there unreal expensive and if the mounting is not prper it'll never give good images i've already looked over my yaks bottom I know how I'll be mounting the transducers I have high hopes project.
