Normally in the summer time here, the bigger boat haulers are all over our roads going to and from the lakes and rivers. With the economic meltdown/gas prices, we are seeing a lot less of these boats on the roads and on the water.
Any electronic maker, rod holder maker, who caters to the fishing/boating crowd had better get into the Kayak after market with simple ways to add on stuff for their gear, not the complicated slicing, dicing, drilling and other engineering proceedures to install their devices/gear.
Like you I will not give up my Trax cart to mount a transducer. Hobie may have to put in an extra transducer scupper hole.
I would really like to use my Lowrance 68c on my yaks, but I'm not skilled in drilling and whatever to mount it.
Re the newer fish finders with the so called hi def and structure scanners, the reviews by customers has not been good at all for their finders.

I sent a message at least 2yrs. ago to Lowrance telling them to get it together and notice where the innovation needs to be its on our awesome plastic boats.
Big boat sales are waaaay down the Big 3 of electronics should be paying better attention to whats happening in the Kayaking world I've been involved in the marine industry for over 25yrs most of that time spent around outboard powered fishing boats during all that time marine electronics(fish-finders) have been there either in my own boats or a customers.
I won't give up my Trax cart to be able to mount a transducer thru one of the scupper holes I'd rather drill.
I've put a couple thousand holes in the bottoms of many many boats having put a couple in the bottom of my kayak so I have a well mounted and well operating sonar is well worth it.
Currently my Kayak has a Lowrance M68c but hopefully this winter I'll be installing a HDS5 and Structure Scan come on Santa smile on my house will ya please.
