problems witn new adventure island

The mast base is screwed up. When inserted iT sits too low and rubs against the top of the forward cross bar bearing. The friction is severe and I can not unfurl the sail with the sheet. I know something is wrong because it has already rubbed the finish off the part. I NEVER EVER HAD THIS PROBLEM BEFORE

I HOPE MATT MILLER IS still around or someone else because there is absolutely no way to find a telephone number to call and my Dealer is clueless

I've seen a few like this (I have unpacked a lot of Islands in my time selling them). Nothing to get over excited about and it's pretty easy to fix. You'll want to make some adjustments to the turnbuckle V-brace assembly. Specifically you need to make adjustments to shorten the length of each turnbuckle so that the mast sits higher.

I had a similar issue (on my 2012 AI) Dealer installed a "plastic visor base plate" in the mast hole. Now it is fixed.

The mast base truss system isn't used for raising or lowering the mast base height. Using it for that purpose can cause damage either out of the gate or further down the road.

If the mast furling collar contacts the mast base plate, it's because the collar was glued on just a bit low on the mast. So the fix is to insert/adhere a shim into the bottom of the mast plug, inside the small indent that fits over the interior steel centering pin. Often all it takes is a small disc cut from an old milk jug or similar. Put a dollop of GOOP on it and push it into the mast base indent until it sets. Use two if need be.

Much more than that and you may have to talk to your dealer about the mast furling collar issue, but I suspect this simple fix will work for you.

I called Jacque at hobie who suggested turnbuckle adjustment. I tried it with no luck and looking at the construction this does not make sense. I thought of the plug in the mast base hole and can try it again.
But for goodness sakes. I spent $4000 for a boat and to have to do these things is a sad day indeed.

It is a shame. Typically our dealers would be dealing with this when they assemble the boat for delivery. Sorry for the hassle.

If you can get some measurements maybe? Mast base to bottom of the drum fitting or some reference to see if the mast is to spec. The receiver is molded, so not likely suspect. The pin inside "could" be short?
