I don't think I'd be the best racer

That's what I thought before our first regatta...not saying I was better than anyone else...but I felt like I barely knew how to make the boat go fast...our first regatta was like the fourth or fifth outing with the boat. We got a general overview of the important rules and a "just follow me..." Honestly, racing had an exponential effect on our recreational sailing experience. And being at the lake for a weekend with a bunch of people who like to sail the same boat as me, as fast as possible, was a blast (FUN!).
I'm going to the lake sailing anyway, right?
Maybe a few hours more, so a few $'s more in gas.
Pay for camping? OK, that's a wash.
Food? Gotta eat right? Hey, someone else is going to cook dinner, and provide coffee every morning, water, etc. (Just BYOB) +1
Entry cost may also include a couple of t-shirts as a momento. +1
Give-aways or raffles for cool sailing stuff. +1
Free rigging or sailing tips from racers happy to see YOU show up???
Priceless
