Penetrol? I'll have to look into that. I wonder if gun blueing agent would work?

While anodizing would be preferred, has anyone tried this product?

http://www.nyalic.com/

As far as powder coating, I've had numerous bad experiences with powder coated aluminum while living close to the salt air. The aluminum corrodes under the coating and finally the coating flakes off leaving a thick layer of aluminum oxide. This may not happen if the aluminum had been anodized first however.

Hi all
I just solve crossbars and boom painting. I want use powder coating (in my country komaxit) with furnace burning of course on sanded surface. Is it good idea? I have good experience with this on steel parts. But I am not sure in case alu profiles...
Somewhere I read about base epoxide and polyuretane color on aluminium parts. Especially propeler.
thank you

Powder coating does not work well on aluminum parts - it is heavy and chips.

Hobie Cat tried it with the "Formula" boats in the early '90s and stopped because of the problems with chipping.

If it chipping, it look that alu parts are more elastic than komaxit powdered coat accept.
here is pic of front crossbar with scratches.

On the quick, simple and cheap, I use a permanent black marker to darken small nicks and scrapes. It isn’t anything to fancy or lasting, but it is quick, cheap, and easy and does a decent job of temporary blemish cover-up.

Wood stove paint works good and has a long lasting finish.
