I use an adjustable trap for myself (as skipper). Easier to get out and then go low; with a 1" ball on the end of a 3:1 it's easy to raise and lower myself. However, I need to revisit the setup because I don't have the shock cord retract, and it's easy for the harness to disengage. Does that make sense? So for me, the best would be the 3:1 adjustment that I have now, with a shock cord to keep tension upward on the hook when I'm not hanging from it.
Also, I use the key-ball connection rather than the hook. Safer, but not all harnesses adapt well to the keyhole (Bethwaite) type spreaders.
