Is attaching two Tandems to make a large Catamaran sane

Anyone considered or considering making a catamaran from 2- 18'-5" Tandem hulls with 180 SF of sail. I assume the ama's wouldn't be needed or desired but perhaps the ama mounts could be used to attach a hike out seat with straps on each side instead of amas. Would the two sails side by side perform well? on the interior a large tramp could be made using something that would fit the ama mount. It seems like a relatively easy mod to try with two Hobie tandems, Maybe a rigid anti submarining upturned nose add on would be in order. Is that a sane idea in the opinion of you sailing experts out there?

Twice the sail for speed. That's my limited knowledge theory anyway. The two hulls I would think eliminate the need for amas. So twice the sail power and two long hulls have a better hull speed than the 10' ama's hull speed. I have only enough information to be dangerous, which is why I'm asking the question to see if experienced/learned sailors can tell me if it's feasible or stupid. It also makes an additional format that doesn't eliminate the regular designed function. I'm thinking Two AI tandem owners could hook their hulls together separated by maybe 6 feet and could sit in the rear seats and theoretically go faster than they could in a regular TI (as long as they coordinate well with their rudders and the sail). Also there might be the hike out option for getting the speed up even further without any ama getting buried. Addtionally...would the increased sail power possibly help enough to consider hydrofoil retrofits on theses heavy hulls. Think of a clunky "bifoiler" but a lot faster than regular TI.

I can't see the point, there are cheaper easier ways to achieve your goal.

I have thought of doing this very same thing. We are full-time RV'ers and are already towing a car and so cannot bring a sailboat with us. The Tandem Island opens up the possibility of bringing a sailing craft on the road with us and exploring sailing destinations never before accessible. The idea of putting two TI's together seems like a logical way to have a fairly large sailing craft that you can roof-top carry, and pedal home when the wind dies. I say go for it. Post some pics of the rig in action.

I just got my dad a new TV and in setting it up I checked he could still get the community TV station (Chan 31). Anyway there was a movie about 2 guys kayaking somewhere in Papua New Guinea. They had just connected 2 fibreglass sea kayaks together with an aluminium framed tramp and were using a paragliding kite gizmo to zip along at what looked a good rate of knots.

Not only that, they had a foldup tent arrangement that fitted the tramp so they had some shelter when they got to there destination. Cooking was using a car inner tube with some kind of cooker inside. I thought that was a good idea as the last place you want hot stuff is on a plastic yak.

Anyway was all looking good until it fell apart and they had to call the mother ship in to be rescued. I'll try to find the name of the film.
