I am in New Tampa with a Hobie 16 and I am looking for other boats to go sailing with/sail with me. I am somewhat new to the sport(although I did take like 6 summers of lessons when I was a kid) and would like to learn more about the sport/improve my skills. Any other Tampa/St Pete people around that might be interested in some sailing over the summer?

Jim here. We have a large group of sailors that sail off of Dunedin Causeway in Dunedin Fl. About 30 miles west of Tampa down Hillsboro Ave--Tampa Road--Curlew Rd.--Honeymoon Island/Dunedin Causeway. Love to have you join us. Sail almost every weekend, big shin-dig this weekend, camping for 5 days!!! Give me a call. 727-916-3400. :P :D

Awesome! Maybe I can find a way out of this road trip and do this instead! Free launching? Do I need beach wheels?

Its official, Saturday the girlfriend and I are going to come out and see what you all are up to. What time will you all be sailing? Launch area is somewhere just south of the bridge according to this map?

Yes. The launch area is about half way down Causeway Blvd. over the first bridge on the left. You can't miss all the cats. I will be down there Friday to Monday. 7 or 8 of use are camping on the 4th island south in St Joseph Sound. Give me a call.

Dang! Girlfriend ended up having to go to St. Pete for the weekend so it doesnt make much sense for both of us to drive all the way there. Looks like I am going to meet her half way and just go to Gandy Bridge this time. Definitely will come by next time though.

So how was the camping trip? Was it hot? Debating on putting together a camping trip myself on one of those islands but I was wondering if this summer heat would kill the deal. Maybe with the sea breeze its not too bad?

Camping was great!!! One short rain late Saturday normal hit or miss seabreeze shower. Had seven boats. The after noonseabreeze always cools things of nicely. Next camp out is for 10 days!!! June 28th-July8th. Last year had 10 tents, 16 kids 12-17 yrs old. Did a 30 lb pork roast slow cooked 8hrs on Saturday. We camp once or twice a month during the summer. Give me a call some time. Jim.
