Hello fellows. most of you have given me good info...i have found what seems to be a nice 1976 hobie for about 1000.00 maybe a little less....it comes with a good trailer and seems to be in good condition says the owner. i will look at her tomorrow and decide...the problem is they do not have a jib for it. is this going to be a problem for me?
i have only sailed the amf sunfish and i know i have to look for soft spots just ahead of the tramp pole insert...any other info would be great. i did pick up a hobie today for 200.00 with a good trailer but no sails...i just could not pass it up since if i find one with no trailer at least i have one now/ tramp is usable but torn a little. what can i part this boat out for or should i just hang on to all the extra parts just in case i need them. will all the parts interchange on all the years hobies were built? sorry about all the questions. thanks in advance.

You're going to need a jib, definitely. Can't hardly tack w/o one, I've tried.

There are plenty of sails out there ranging from used to new Hobie sails or even aftermarket sails. Ditto about not sailing with a jib, its a pain. Most of the parts are interchangeable on the older boats. There are plenty of websites (including this one, eBay, beachcats, craigslist, etc) with parts and sails. Have fun.
