Congrats Paul! Welcome to the queue :D

With transporting on your sedan, have you considered the 'T' piece arrangements that bolt onto a towbar?

captain-max,

Yes I will be getting a 'goal post'. I was thinking of placing a teflon on the goal post. I am not sure if I will them place the TI upside down or get the kayak attachments for my roof racks. Any suggestions??
I was worried about the weight of getting it up on the car, but I do think I will be ok.

I enquired at Rhino the other day about the 'Goal Post' attachment and they reckon that you need the 50 mm sq box H/D Tow package to take it. (As opposed to a normal tongue and ball).

Although I'd imagine that you'd be able to get one manufactured for a tongue/ball (of course if that's what you have) considering that it's not really the weight that's the issue, more just a bit of lateral movement. I've got a Falcon Sedan that I'll be using with Rhino Aero bars and will get a H/D 50mm sq towbar to accomodate that Goalpost arrangement.

I've already had a Dbl Hobie kayak come off my Alfa* (on 2 bars only) at about 90k's and reeeeeeeally don't want that to happen again.

*Both Thule and Rhino have taken my model Alfa bars off the market as they obviously just don't cut it for anything greater than a pushie/snow skis/small surfboard. (the bars and everything left the vehicle including a Thule Hydroglide system).

The Thule bars/Hydroglide was trashed. The Hobie got a 2" scratch that needs to be pointed out to see it.

The goal post isn't really necessary to carry an AI Ken. Rhino Aero racks work fine on their own (I've got some). If you carry it inverted (easy), you don't even need cradles. A rack and roll lateral extension bar is a big help, on the other hand.

Thanks Chris.

I manage to load the heavier Oasis on the Falcon by myself, so I should be Ok with the lighter AI hull. I bought a couple of 'Ladder pegs' for the Aero bars the other day to stop the nose sliding off the front bar as I wrestle the rear up.

Ken

Paul, I have no experience with car topping, but I'd look at a T piece that bolts on in place of the towbar. I did see a 'D' section of hard, slippery plastic strip at BCF that's intended as a crossbar boat slide.

I'm wondering if the upright of the T piece should be telescopic? Lower it about half(?) way to get the hulls sliding up to the rear roof rack, then lift the hulls and push forward until in place on both roof racks, then raise the towbar T piece for rear hull support.

That might make it easier to transport the hulls right side up, then as you unload it you can insert the cart... well, I think so, anyway!

Just in response to all (thanks!).

I am in the fortunate (unfortunate) position that I do not have a towbar so I need to have 1 installed. The type of towbar that was mentioned (heavy duty) is called a Hayman Rees not that we need the tow capacity. The 'goal post' fits nicely into it, it has a screw that keeps it relatively sturdy. I have seen on a you tube link that you can add straps for added stability. Yes this one that I have seen on you tube is telescopic to accommodate differences in car heights

I went to the boat show Friday (thats when I ordered my TI) and look at that plastic (teflon) strip; I did think that it would be great for the goal post. It would help with loading. Thanks for the conformation.
