Matt, are you using a carpet on your rails?Do you prefer that over the neoprene?Better grip and longer lasting?I still like Dave Bell's setup for his trapeze shock cord. :D ..Dave show us a good view of your setup,thanks...Bill 404 21 SE

I use rubber-backed carpet runner from Lowe's. $10 for a 10' x 2' strip that's enough to do two boats. Glued on with good old-fashioned contact cement. It lasts about 3 years, then I peel it off and replace it.

I never liked the neoprene. Just personal preference.

Look at the way Dave Bell installed his trapeze bungees, that system looks nice...How about some more photos Dave... :D

I know this looks like over-kill and it probably is, but it's an application that makes getting on, being on and getting off the wire a dream. Got the idea fron an illustration in the Hobie catalogue but relocated the points of connection and added mini-blocks. Does not restrict movement to the aft footstrap at all.

Please don't try this at home!

Thanks buddy. I really, really like this set up and may just make this mod myself. The only thing that makes me concerned is drilling through the topsides lip like that. I guess you haven't had any issues? I might get a block with a swivel fitting instead, just to reduce the chance for tension or binding a little. Did you finish off the hole with epoxy or anything else to seal it and also keep it from fraying the rope?

On another note, I saw on another picture of Sciatica where you were storing your cat trax inverted and on the rear hull topsides while trailering. Ever try and sail that way? Is there clearance for the tiller system to move freely while underway? I have some great sail camping opportunities near me but would want the trax with me to keep the boat at the camp site and secure. I don't think they will fit under the tramp so the rear topsides is probably the only option if I MUST take them with me.

Who else is drooling on both those boats? Trade either of you straight up!

Actually Barren, most of what I've done to my boat has been run through the Bounds/Miller gauntlet. I have followed their recommendations (most of the time) and have come out on the winning end most of the time as a result. When I didn't, I think it was just a matter of preference. No rules were broken, I don't think. I'd really like to take a walk around Matt's boat to see if I could see any ideas that I could use.

Now Jman, one of the times I didn't listen to Mbounds was when I drilled a hole in the outer lip of the hulls to anchor my skippers shock cord. I think he said that it may not be class legal to make that modification (yeah, don't think I'm not listening, Matt  ). There haven't been any protest so far, but we'll see. I think I'll have to beat somebody before I'll get one of those. Also, those holes are not sealed with anything but I have to say, the swivel-minis sounds like a great idea. Hmmmmmmmmmm. :?
Also, there's more tiller clearance with the rudders down when the beach wheels are sitting on the stern. So, I guess you could sail the boat with the beach wheels there. However, I would be concerned about the xtra weight with the boat lacking buoyancy in the stern and all. Hey, try it and see. What have you got to lose? Might work for day-sailing.

Hey David and thanks. I've started assembling pieces for the trap outriggers, and also for the rear foot hold/carrying handle you show at the stern. What length is the black tubing you used there? I will definitely test the cat trax "sail-ability" the next chance I get, so stay tuned....

I just got a 1980 hobie 16 and I'm not sure how the trap system is set up. I have all 4 trap wires and bungee but I don't get how to attach them to the boat. Do I just run the bungee under the tramp? I'm afraid if I do this the skipper and crew trapeze will get tangled with each other. I've also never sailed a cat so pitchpoling is quite likely, will this break the bungee?

My Bungee just connects and runs under the tramp. You can get creative like David Bell did. He sails in the surf and where he has more wind. For me, it is light winds most of the time. I only run one trap line. If I have someone with me, I let them trap out. This is rare.

I’m replacing the shock cords on my T2, but having trouble finding as T2 discontinued.
Will Hobie 16 cords work for the T2?
Thanks for any info.
