I have a 1984 Magnum that I've been sailing for about 3 years now.

My question is about the rudders. They don't kick up very easily. Unfortunately
the adjusters and pins are frozen. I don't want to use too much force for fear
of breaking something.

I'm understand there was a change in the design at some point. I'm assuming
that I have the old style as virtually EVERYTHING on the boat appeared original
when I bought it (Very well maintained, but I changed out all the rigging for safety)

Any ideas where to start? A good diagram would help.

Look at this link. If it does not work it is the post titled "Rudder Replacement?". I filed the castings as Matt suggested and my old castings work great now. Before I could not kick them up by hand and I had a lot of trouble using the tiller arms to unlock my rudders. Now I just came off a week of sailing at the beach and let them kick up by themselves, like new. It also saved me the cost of buying the new cam system ($600).

Good Luck.

Just saw your comment about the adjusters and pins being frozen. The adjuster and spring above it are inexpensive pieces to replace. You should pull those out and reset after filing. Dab some marine grease on the these before putting new ones in. The adjuster is plastic so no worries about breaking the casting around it. Pins? What pins - rudder pins? Should be able to gently tap these out.
