Just bought my second Hobie 16 since my first 25 years ago, and I need to know how do you tell if the battens
need to be replaced or not. The boat and sails are 1988 model. The sails need to be cleaned, but feel good. I have yet
to remove the battens to clean the sails, but would like advice on what to look for while I am inspecting the battens.

Thanks,
Dennis

Battens last forever.

Replace them if they're badly splintered, but otherwise, they should be good to go. Minor splits at the luff end can be repaired.
