Still wrestling with the date a bit. At this moment, Tuesday, we're on for Oct 20-22. Some of my fleet would rather see us doing this Sept 22-24. The reason is the unpredictability of the weather and possibly low water temps.
Would those of you interested in sailing in this, give me an idea of what would be better for you. Obviously, I am really interested in a large turnout. I don't think 20 boats is going to be a problem, but need to know what the 14 racers would prefer in the schedule.
Thanks.
You can respond off-list [email protected] if you like.

I have to agree with the September dates. From a weather stand point, there is less of a chance of really cold weather marching down from the north and winds exceeding safe sailing limits. September is usually warmer than October! You could add a day of racing if planned around a holiday weekend.

Wow! This could turn out to be THE Hobie event to make this year!!

Chris: Keep in mind that the 16's begin Sept. 11. I know I won't be able to get time off for the 14's if in September. This would probably make it more difficult for others also. I would guess that Jeffers, Bounds , Borg and me will all be at the 16's. These are last years top 4. That will probably be my only top 5 ever at a Nationals and didn't even get a napkin that said 4th place. Go deep in trophies.. .And a later date gives me a chance to loose that 50 lbs that might make me competitive.

So you're saying the later date would ensure the 4 of you attending? There is a little dissention within my fleet regarding date. I personally like Oct better too and am working it, but I won't have a definitive answer until this weekend. If you think you guys are in if in Oct, that would help!

I can only speak for myself. I would like to go, but September makes it much more difficult. I can't loose much weight(although I should) so that I can sail with my daughter on the 16 and not carry a bunch of weight. She has been telling her friends that she is going to take them out sailing this summer and someday win the 14 Nationals. Goals are good. I would make sure that Billy and Matt can both make it so that Bob has someone to play with.

Pat's right.

(Pat - I've got a bad email address for you - send me an email from the Verizon acct so I can put it in my address book.)

I heard from Bill Jeffers - he'll go on either date.
Dan Borg would prefer October because of vacation issues.
I would prefer October for the same reason. Also, Rosh Hashana (Jewish New Year) is on September 23. Gotta appease the other half or she gets cranky about me taking off so much time for regattas  .

I would be lying if I said the when of the 14s is an easy choice. I don't think its looking too good for October. I have a feeling that the Sept date will work better for the masses and hope it doesn't put too big a kink in the system. Not for sure yet, but leaning that way. Hope to have it nailed down by friday. There is just alot of events going on this summer and its tough to fit everything together, especially with the 14 since there is so much crossover with the other classes.

OK, I'm seriously thinking about it. I have a friend that wants to do the drive, so he can bring 2 boats. I'll be a rock star and fly in and then go on to visit family in Clinton.

I may be picking up an 84 redline boat pretty soon, so I may have a third one to lend when or if I get there. Of course, I'll bring a ton of spare parts.

Any time except Labor day weekend would probably work for me, but the fleet has to schedule it so that they can make it happen..

Okay, I wish EVERYONE could be happy with this, but I don't think we can possibly please everyone. So, officially, the 14 NA will be Sept 22-24. The fleet had that and the Oct date to vote on, 80% of the fleet voted for Sept for a number of reasons. I apologize for any inconvienence, but this date will provide a more stable sailing environment, allow for a safer, warmer and bigger turnout regatta. On-line registration will be available in the next week or so, www.hobiecatdivision7.org and you can pay with paypal. We plan on having an all inclusive regatta, have a great host hotel and a perfect beach, only steps from your trailer and the yacht club to sail from. We at Fleet 10 look forward to this event and your participation and can't hardly wait until Sept.
Thanks

I am working on it. Contact me off list [email protected] with some contact info and I'll put you on top of the list.
You can fly into BuddyHolleykilling airport (mcw) and go 3 miles to the regatta site.

Well, that Buddy Holly/Big Bopper/ Richie Valenz accident happened like 50 years ago and I don't think there has been any rockstar deaths here since then, so you should be okay. 8)

Yeah, but it is all about numbers--I mean if an accident JUST happened, then there would be a better chance that one wouldn't happen this year. You see, it's getting about time for another one.

I'll wear a condom--safe flying and all, y'know.
