Used acetone to clean 34 years worth of stain off the blades, sanded down with 80,120 and 240 grit, then used rattle can for the coating

Resolution is low on the iphone camera, but all in all not a bad way to spend 3-4 hours (six pack) waiting for the rain/humidity/heat index to subside.

Murphy's Law of Work vs. Longevity:

The more work you spend in restoring something, the more likely it's going to break in the short term.

ABS rudders on a Hobie 16 = break off at the rudder casting.

Old man Murphy can be a jerk. There are some epo blades I have my eyes on just in case. Plus football season is just around the corner and the Hobie needed some collegiate colors.

I did the exact same thing to mine except I painted them black. It worked great. One of my rudders has a crack originating from the top hole. I drilled the end of the crack and filled with epoxy. So far so good with 2 sailing seasons. I know one day the rudder will fall off into the lake, but until then, SAIL ON!

BTW, good job!
