Mirage Drive Travel

I got under my Outback to see why my Turbo Fins never laid flat to my hull in the left foot forward position.Also to check for any signs of cracks because I am starting to get a little water in the hull.I found that the fins aren't what stops the travel in the left foot forward position.It is the knuckle that the turbo fin rod screws into that makes first contact.Visible in the attached picture. This only happens in this direction.With the right foot pedal pushed to the farthest forward direction the fins are what contact the bottom of the hull stopping the travel and the fins lay flat to the hull.If I apply further pressure I would bend the rods.On the left foot forward direction this contact with the knuckle to the bottom of the hull is like a hard stop.I believe if enough force is used when the knuckle connects it could crack the hull.Something has to give. I believe this will eventually be a problem.Is this just my Outback or do others see the same thing?

Drives are often not perfectly aligned when mounted. This can be due to inevitable slight variations in shrinkage when cooling after the Rotomolding process.

First check your fins and see if they are both within 2 or 3 degrees of straight up when holding your Drive upside down, pedals together (make sure the pedal adjustments are in identical holes). This checks to see if your Drive has a tendency to ground on one side prematurely. If they are leaning to one side or split significantly, they can be realigned by loosening and tightening opposing nuts at the cable ends. If they are close, better to leave it alone though -- correct cable tension is more important than perfect alignment.

If you're smacking the boat with your Drive or fin(s), you have the pedals adjusted too close. Go to the next pedal position. Your legs should be able to fully extend without normally hitting anything with the Drive.

I guess I will need to do this. If i could post a picture it would be easier to explain what I am talking about. I am questioning what is supposed to stop the mireage drives travel.Should the tip of the fins contact the hull? In the one direction my fins are more than 3 inches from touching the hull.The other direction they are within 1 inch.This is a problem for me when landing in the surf.

Roadrunner is dead on as always. there is no need to make full contact with hull while in use and if going shallow with one foot all the way foward there shouldn't be enough pressure to cause damage to the hull.
