Hi guys,

Newbie question: on a Hobie16 (approx 2000 model), what is the max weight that the mast can take for two people out on the trapeze? Could it take the weight of two large guys?

Thanks,
HonkieHobie.

In general, yes - the rig can take it.

But you need to define "large guys". 250# each? That's probably getting close to the limit. The boat would be practically underwater with that much weight on it.

I would love to know the answer to this question as well since I weight 225. Also...what is the most weight you can have out on an EZ cruz?.............P.S. When I hang off the side with just my weight, the boat does great things

Well me and my buddy probably weight around 400 lbs total. We'd only both trapeze out if the boat needed it (i.e. in strong winds), but I'm wondering what the max trap weight that the mast is rated for.

My buddy who is a big guy and a very good sailor said with him and his son who are over 400lbs together actually had the boat (hobie 16) planing upwind while both on the trap in big winds.I might add he has also broken a mast with him and his son twin wiring.

Someone plz tell me why and how the mast would break before a trapeze wire or a shroud. And where exactly does the mast fail? Does it bend? Does the tang pull off the rivets? What?
