Saw a guy with his Revo in a car-top carrier doing about 75 MPH down I95 the other day. He had the drive-well plug in place... I would have thought wind force would have popped it out but I couldn't see if it was secured.

Does it make any significant difference whether the plug is in or out when hauling on top?

I didn't put in the plugs when I used to car top, but I put them in every time now that I'm using trailer.

Any noticeable advantage to trailering with the plug in?

IMO, there is no advantage to using the plug under any circumstances -- it's aerodynamically insignificant.

On the contrary, I run the forward lines (one from each side) through the open drivewell as an insurance policy that the boat doesn't go anywhere. This allows a snug, but not over-cinched tie down so as not to compress the hull. the boat floats around a little but it will never go far if you run your lines this way. 8)

PS If the drivewell is not suitably located, scupper hole(s) accomplish the same thing.

Nope. I car topped our Outback and Sport without the plugs in place because I used the drive wells for tie down purposes. On the trailer the TI and Revo have the plugs in place to retain lines and such. Absolutely no difference whether the plugs are in or out while trailering.
