Carrying a paddle

I know you should carry a paddle on every boat but where is the best place to carry it or store it on the Hobie 14 that is out of the way.

I have a Hobie 16 and I just thread it through the tramp lacing in the center. It stays snug and in place.

I'm sure you could get two paddles in there, but the Hobie paddles so easy that one should be enough. When I've been stuck with no wind, I've even laid on the front pontoon like I was on a surfboard and paddled with my hands while the girlfriend skippered. Matt Miller claims that he can paddle like this and use the tiller with his feet. Paddling with one paddle and having another on the tiller works just fine.

You don't need a paddle on a 14. Steer with your feet and hang over the front crossbar and swim the boat along, she'll move quicker than you think. You can't paddle AND steer at the same time anyway and the tramp on a 14 is too small for anything else to be on there. I have seen one bungied on the dolphin striker sideways before, but I think it caught alot of water while underway.

I've paddled in on the 16 multiple times. Just get out on the hull and start paddling. Obviously it turns better in one direction than the other depending on the hull you've chosen.

I have seen pictures of paddles attached to the side of the boom. How was that done?

I typically tie half a kayak paddle to the frong crossbar. Its out of the way, and has come in handy.

I agree the 14 is pretty easy to move around, especially since you can get the boat moving just by cranking the rudders from side to side.
However, when I took my hobie out of the water last fall, I had to get it across a small bay to the boat launch. Typically I would have sailed it over, but I happened to run into a bit of a Nor'Easter. I had to do it the day I was down there, as I was moving to Vermont, and wanted to take the boat with me.
So, I got my rain gear on, sat on the front and paddled like hell, only to let the wind blow me back anytime I stopped. I eventually made it to a sandbar and jumped in, as a buddy who was helping me had to catch a ferry, and was already running late.

I'll never forget that day! But anyway, take a paddle.
