Hello!

I am new to Hobie kayak fishing and so excited. Lots of friends have sworn by Hobie kayaks! Im in!!! I got an amazing deal on a 08 Revolution!!

I recently ordered a bran new product in the bran new accessories catalogue. It is a flush mount with pivot rod holder. They run about $30. I was set on the 1.5 inch ball mounts with rod holders but they are so much more expensive. Anyone have any luck with these? The mounting looks more invasive than the ball mounts! Any suggestions or tips? These new flush mounts look really slick, I can't imagine Hobie would put them out there if they were not great. I will be fishing mostly for salmon species, will these be strong enough?

Can't wait wait to Feel The Fury of a 30+ pound springer!!!

Thank you!!

Hi there,

I don't think you can go wrong with either RAM rod holder that you choose. The advantage of the flush mount pivot RAM rod holder is that when you are done fishing and remove the rod holder, your rails remain clear for transportation. The RAM pivot rod holder mounted on the regular 1.5" ball mount allows you to get slightly better angles and movement out of your rod holder, but you are left with the ball mount on your kayak after fishing. There are advantages to both, and both are strong enough to handle big fish.

Tight lines!
