Ibid to the remarks already posted...we have an SX and Magnum at the south end of Lake Michigan. I really enjoy the looks and the feel of sailing w/wings.

We have learned how to pull the boats up the beach with the heavier weight. It's worth it...but there are still days when the H-16 is a blast, also.

My Hobie 18 came wings and I loved them right up to the time I abused the weight limit and destroyed one. They are hard to replace and or repair. If anyone really hates their wings or knows of a single or pair just lying around, please contact me.
I've never raced and use the boat for basically one week on family vacations in Cape Cod. If I ever get it fixed, I'll never overload it again.

I have an extra set of Magnum wings available (located in central lower Michigan). Wings & mounting kit (complete with the correct tramp slot spanning long bar and "butterfly brace" and old-school Magnum mounting instructions) for $800; without mounting kit for $700. Excellent condition, no stresses - see the one detail pic for example of the condition of the joints. Some light fading, but no corrosion. Much nicer shape than most used wings I've seen.

Magnum wings need to be shipped by truck. Make sure they are "crated" well and insured. Mine came from NH and was quoted at around $200 to ship to MI. It pays to know people and I got them shipped for free by a "friend". Or try freightquote.com

i am looking into making my own attachment parts. is there a reason that one of those anchor/inserts is longer than the other 3?

Yes the longer insert fits in the rear track to span the opening where the tramp rope slides into. Hope that helps. I made my own mounts but I would suggest you buy the stainless tabs that fit on the outside ends of the crossbar. Use 1/4" bolts to attach the wings to the tab, it gives you a stiffer wing connection to the boat.

I forgot to add one remark. If you love your wings you will not overload them weight wise. I think Magnum wings have a load limit of 450 lbs, I never put over 400 lbs on them.

The wings from Michigan came yesterday and look perfect. I now have an extra port side wing and anyone needs one.
Happy Thanksgiving
